Endure was a text based narrative horror proof of concept that focused on themes of mental health and depression. Endure was a college assignment lasting the entirety of the school semester, and served as a more experimental writing style for myself with a set of darker, more serious themes than what I usually work with.
Ultimately, Endure acted as my first major project with these heavier themes in mind, and as such would drastically impact the way I approached both its writing and design. As a text centric game, the writing required a good amount of care in relation to the player. It had to strike a balance between short and digestible segments of text to not burnout or overload players, while still delivering on an uncomfortable and oppressive atmosphere. Similarly, the games puzzle design had to have quite a bit of thought put into it. The puzzles themselves had to be woven into the game world in a way that was conducive for a text based game, while not compromising on the puzzles themselves.
